An Immersive Lagoon

Immerse yourself in ‘space matter’ from the Lagoon and Trifid Nebulas (M8 and M20, respectively). This is not my first encounter with this beautiful pair, but through the knowledge and techniques I have learnt in imaging deep sky objects over the past year, this image captures more detail than my first attempt (See link below for my blog on Sky Candy). As a reminder, this pair is located some 4,300 lights years away from earth and sits in the Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way Galactic Core.

The journey continues… in the meantime, remember to look up and experience an amazing Universe!

Imaged with Altair Hypercam 26c, Skywatcher 72ED APO + flattener + AA quadband filter, tracker on an Explore Scientific EXOS 2GT mount.

Exif: 31 images @ 5-mins exposure, 420mm focal length, Gain 200, Offset 3, TEC @ 10 degrees.

    1. Thank you very much Michele. I really do appreciate your comments and support. This journey continue to amaze me as well… and so it will continue. Blessings!

  2. Amazing detail! I did not realize the lagoon was that much larger than the triffid. Maybe that’s why I always had difficulty finding that triffid. Great job Drex!
