This season’s first capture of the Great Orion Nebula (Messier 42 or M42). M42 is a diffuse nebula located in the constellation of Orion which lies along the Milky Way core. It is approximately 1,344 light years away from Earth and is said to be about 2,000 times the mass of the Sun 😳. M42 is considered to be the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. Under dark skies M42 can be seen as a fuzzy patch on the middle star of Orion’s Sword.
