Star trails are the continuous paths of stars observed from earth over a period of time. In fact, the motion of the stars are truly a reflection of the earth’s rotation about its celestial poles. The circular motion of the stars gives a unique composition that immerses the observer into the universe. Stars vary in color and these colors can be exaggerated to give vivid and spectacular artistic renditions, as depicted in this series. Although the vortex is created when the celestial poles are in the field of view (Polaris in the Northern Hemisphere, Sigma Octantis in the Southern Hemisphere), star trails can be observed in any section of the night sky. Therefore, they make for creative compositions of landscapes and other land features.
