First Quarter Moon (43%)

Here is the March 2025 First Quarter Moon captured on the 6th at around 7:30pm. Over the last week, I have heard for the first time, about Lunar X and Lunar V. I decided to do a bit of research, and I have to admit that it is rather interesting.

Lunar X (also referred to as Werner X) is an optical illusion that is visible only for a few hours before the moon enters its first quarter phase. Sunlight hits the moon’s craters and mountains at an angle that creates the illusion of a giant “X” and a “V.” For more on this phenomena, visit here. Let’s see if you can locate Lunar X and Lunar V on my featured image. In the meantime, remember to look up and experience an amazing Universe! Also, stay tuned for the lunar eclipse on 13-14 March.

  1. Very nice photo, and I was not aware of lunar x and lunar v. Lunar x is quite visible, lunar v a little bit less so but I believe I see it. I am quite certain that when I was living on St Thomas I optically observed lunar x, although I never thought about it or knew what it was. Nice work and thanks for the info! 👍👍💯

    1. Well my friend I literally only heard about it last week. I didn’t know it was a thing and that you can only observe at this time of the moon cycle. I’m grateful for the opportunity to just shoot something 🤣
